Coming from France: Take the Albertville direction
1. Albertville → Moutiers (30 km – 25 min)
- Take the N90, a well-maintained dual carriageway that runs alongside the River Isère.
- It is a wide, free-flowing road that is very busy in winter.
- Views of the surrounding mountains, including the Bauges and the Pre-Alps.
2. Moutiers → Bourg-Saint-Maurice (27 km – 25 min)
- Still on the N90, you continue up the Tarentaise valley.
- This stretch is lined with cliffs, forests and torrents. The landscape narrows.
3. Bourg-Saint-Maurice → Arc 1950 (8 km – 35-45 min)
- This is the mountainous, winding part of the route.
- You leave the N90 to climb via the D119, a high-altitude road.
- There are around 25 twists and turns to negotiate, through pine forests and impressive views over the valley.
- Pass through Arc 1600, Arc 1800, then on to Arc 2000.
- Arc 1950 lies just before Arc 2000, at an altitude of 1,950 m, nestled in an Alpine cirque.
⚠️ Useful information:
In winter, special equipment is compulsory (chains or snow tyres).
The last few kilometres may be icy or snow-covered, so use caution.
Chaining areas are available in Bourg-Saint-Maurice if required.
Parking in Arc 1950 is underground and subject to a charge, but the village is pedestrianised: leave your car behind and walk around.
